1. Overview & Core Philosophy
Connect2Any is an offline, peer-to-peer file sharing application for Android and cross-platform web devices. We do not operate central servers, we do not track your activity, and we never collect, store, or sell any of your personal data, files, or telemetry.
All file transfers take place exclusively over direct local network links (such as Wi-Fi Direct, Local Area Networks, or Personal Wi-Fi Hotspots). Your files never transit through our servers because no such servers exist.
2. Data Collection and Usage
Connect2Any collects zero data:
- No Personal Identifiers: We do not ask for names, email addresses, phone numbers, or account registrations.
- No Content Inspection: We cannot and do not inspect, log, or analyze the names, metadata, or contents of the files you share.
- No Analytics or Tracking: There are no third-party tracking SDKs, advertising libraries, or analytics frameworks embedded in the app.
- No Cloud Storage: All files remain exclusively on the sender's and receiver's local storage hardware.
3. Device Permissions & Purpose
Connect2Any requests only the minimal Android permissions necessary for offline peer-to-peer networking:
- Nearby Devices (Bluetooth Scan, Advertise, Connect): Required on Android 12+ to discover nearby peers and negotiate direct Wi-Fi Direct connections without internet.
- Nearby Wi-Fi Devices / Wi-Fi State: Used to establish local point-to-point Wi-Fi Direct sockets and host local Ktor Web Share HTTP endpoints.
- Storage Access (Photos, Videos, and Documents): Used solely to allow you to select files to send, and to save incoming files to your public
Downloads/Connect2Anydirectory. - Location Access (Coarse/Fine): Required on legacy Android versions (Android 11 and earlier) by Google Play Services Nearby Connections framework for BLE beacon discovery. Connect2Any never logs or transmits your GPS coordinates.
4. Local Data Persistence (SQLite)
Connect2Any stores your personal preferences (such as your chosen display name and Dark Mode setting) and transfer activity history locally on your device in an encrypted SQLite database. This data never leaves your device and is completely erased if you uninstall the app or tap "Clear All History".
5. Ktor Web Sharing Security
When you activate the Web Share feature, an embedded Ktor web server runs locally on your device on port 8080 (or your configured port). It is only accessible to devices connected to your identical local Wi-Fi router or your personal mobile hotspot. The server stops immediately when you toggle it off in the app.
6. Children's Privacy
Connect2Any does not address or collect information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.
